Dow has an exciting and challenging opportunity as an Associate Analytical Technician in Hayward, CA! In this role, you will support manufacturing operations by conducting laboratory analyses, as needed, which provide critical data. You will also prepare samples, perform preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and use data systems to acquire data. You will be reporting results to the client. This role requires established basic laboratory skills to perform a range of routine lab activities using existing standard operating procedures and/or analytical/ scientific methods.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques (gravimetric, volumetric, and temperature measurements, etc.).
  • Willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating shift.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, and holidays, if required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular scheduled) if required.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work - The individual must have the ability to work in a fast pace environment, and react quickly to evolving and dynamic production scheduling situations, with minimum supervision. As well as work independently with excellent time management and judgment in prioritization skills, as the requirements of the business may cause frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Multitasking - Complete multiple tasks and see them through completion.
  • Collaboration - Ability to properly communicate, work constructively and positively, with peers and co-workers, including working collaboratively and effectively in team, department, or other work group situations.
  • Learning Agility - Must be able to follow written and oral instructions as this position requires the ability to learn multiple analytical techniques, work with close attention to detail, and multi-task effectively. Also must be able to maintain a laboratory notebook
  • Troubleshooting - Ability to troubleshoot analytical equipment to drive resolution to unplanned equipment issues.
  • Computer Skills - Software experience in Outlook, Excel, SAP, Sample Manager, Operations Database (OPD), and Management of Change (MOC) is preferred.
  • Laboratory Techniques - Laboratory Techniques: Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques (gravimetric, volumetric, and temperature measurements, etc.).
  • Physical Requirements: Must be willing and able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Wear safety equipment, such as goggles and steel-toed shoes.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's degree or higher in Chemistry or related field.
  • 1 or more years of experience in working with analytical lab equipment (in education or work setting).
  • Working knowledge and experience in one or more of the following: GMP GLP FDA RCRA OSHA
  • Computer Skills - Software experience in Outlook, Excel, SAP, Sample Manager, Operations Database (OPD), and Management of Change (MOC) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic tests such as solids, pH, viscosity, gel, particle size, residual monomer, density, etc., on all finished products according to test plan and established procedures.
  • Perform all required tests on incoming or outgoing raw materials as defined by the current procedures such as testing by FTIR, etc., according to requirements.
  • Perform all miscellaneous tests such as Bacteria Analysis, Kettle water, White water, Caustic Scrubber / Cleaning Tank Titration, etc., according to requirements.
  • Perform control charting functions in SAP for data based decision making.
  • Document all test results as required by established procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment according to calibration procedures.
  • Operate other test instruments as needed such as FTIR, Headspace GC, HPLC, etc.
  • Complete all COA requests as required.
  • Release conforming material and initiate tagging for non-conforming material.
  • Lab vacation / absentee coverage
  • Perform lab housekeeping assignment.
  • Maintain lab work area in a clean, orderly condition.
  • Maintain retain samples in an organized manner.
  • Interact with other departments in a team approach.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled safety meetings and other lab related training.
  • Support plant safety initiatives.
