Help shape smarter healthcare decisions at scale as an Associate Actuarial Director / Data Scientist - owning high-impact hospital and Ambulatory Surgical Center claim re-pricing studies from concept to code. You’ll partner closely with Healthcare Economics and other internal customers, bring sharp analytical and decision-making judgment to complex unit cost trend questions, and serve as a lead SAS/Python developer who helps keep the team ahead of UHC technology shifts like cloud and data migration. Just as important, you’ll drive clear, confident communication with stakeholders - translating technical findings into action. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, physics, or similar quantitative discipline
  • 6+ years of SAS or similar programming experience demonstrating an advanced/expert level of proficiency
  • 6+ years of hands-on computational problem-solving experience in a healthcare environment including, at a minimum, extracting data from large relational databases, understanding medical codes, and working with structured, unstructured, claims, enrollment, and provider data

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in actuarial science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, physics, or similar quantitative discipline
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation
  • Knowledge of Medicare provider reimbursement such as DRG/APC/Fee Schedules
  • Extensive knowledge of medical claims data, especially hospital claims data

Responsibilities

  • Work independently and collaboratively with Healthcare Economics and other internal customers to deliver hospital and Ambulatory Surgical Center claim re-pricing studies
  • Ability to work at both a conceptual and detailed level with solid analytical, programming, problem solving, and decision-making skills related to hospital claims and unit cost trends
  • Candidate will be one of the lead SAS/Python developers on the team and will serve as a key subject expert to keep up with UHC technology updates such as Cloud and data migration
