Purpose To provide academic advising, mentorship and holistic support, including resource referral, to first- and second-year students in the Texas Interdisciplinary Plan (TIP) Scholars program. Support the management of a student leadership program. To advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of experience working with students in an advising capacity, or Master's degree in a related field and two years of experience in advising, group work, assessment and/or administration of student academic programs.
  • Ability to multi-task and to successfully work with a wide-ranging student population.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to communicate with all levels of constituents: students, parents, faculty and other staff members.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Must be student-focused and student-friendly.
  • Experience with data collection and reporting.
  • Experience providing holistic and non-academic support to students – including resource referral.
  • Experience adapting to and communicating University policies that evolve over time.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with academic advising at the university level.
  • Experience with University specific software, such as Advisor's Toolkit and Mainframe.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in facilitating small groups, classrooms or presentations.
  • Experience in training, mentoring, or leading student populations at the university level.

Responsibilities

  • Academic Advising: Provide academic advising for students individually and in groups. Lead academic advising and orientation meetings, as well as informational sessions for various stakeholders (e.g., parents). Accurately and efficiently guide students in their coursework planning for registration and 4-year plans. Ensure adherence to UT and CNS policies and procedures.
  • Teaching and Curriculum Development: Work as part of a TIP instructional team to develop, teach and assess the first-year seminar course and other TIP related courses. This work primarily occurs fall semester.
  • Student Staff Supervision and Support: Support the management of a Peer Academic Advising staff, including recruitment and training of student participants.
  • Special Project and Committee Work: Coordinate special projects for the betterment of TIP Scholars students and programs, and represent TIP staff on CNS or UT committees.
  • Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within CNS.
