About The Position

The academic advisor in the College of Business and Technology assists current and prospective undergraduate students in setting and achieving major and career goals. Responsible to the Assistant Dean for Student Success in the College of Business and Technology, the advisor works as a member of the College’s advising, recruitment, and retention team. The academic advisor works closely with college departments and university offices to support students in understanding and completing program and graduation requirements. The academic advisor assists students in selecting majors, exploring career goals, and creating and following a degree plan. The academic advisor identifies and supports at-risk students, connecting them to various campus resources. The advisor is responsible for keeping thorough academic advisement records, participating in recruiting activities, participating in regularly scheduled conducting orientation advisement sessions, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic academic advisement process in higher education.
  • Knowledge of computers and various software packages.
  • Ability to become proficient in the most commonly used ETSU advising tools, including but not limited to Banner, GoldLink, Degree Works, and EAB Navigation.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of course catalog, general education core, and specific program requirements.
  • Ability to work with students with a wide variety of abilities and backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to speak publicly.
  • Ability to think objectively and solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of experience working with students in higher education.
