The Opportunity This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in Global Security division. The job will be requiring rotating 8 hour shifts 7:00am -3:30pm or 10:30am - 7:00pm Monday -Friday with some additional hours for special events The Associate 2 Security, Proactive Alert Team Member, The Proactive Alert Team (PAT) Officer will support the Abbott Lake County Security Group primarily serving the Abbott Park East & West Campuses. Members of the PAT Team will be trained as first-line Abbott security professionals responsible for responding to emergencies from a first responder awareness level. Members of the PAT team are also required to be members of the Abbott Labs Emergency Response Team (ALERT). This will require the member to be trained in Confined Space Rescue, Hazardous Materials mitigation, and firefighting and any other trainings that are deemed necessary by the training coordinator. The individual will attend technician courses and attend monthly trainings in these areas. Additional primary functions include day-to-day patrols of all Abbott Park roadways and walkways utilizing vehicles that will allow access throughout the property as well as foot patrols throughout the property to include the interior of buildings as well as assisting in additional fixed security positions within the Abbott campus environment. The PAT Team members will work in conjunction at times with Abbott’s contractual guard service as well as the Abbott Fire Department and local municipal fire and law enforcement agencies. As training and experience in the position are attained – responsibilities may involve supporting other parts of Abbott’s Global Security Department.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff and the public.
  • Understand and follow standard operating procedures and to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain any state required training or other qualifications for licensing.
  • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; and memorializing in clear concise written fashion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work outside in inclement weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of security operations and procedures.
  • Adhere to all company service and operating standards.
  • Good working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment and enforcement of procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol Abbott Park and Abbott Park west along with offsite buildings.
  • Conduct traffic enforcement throughout Abbott Park.
  • Respond to medical, fire, Haz mat, confined space emergencies and environmental alarms.
  • Assist Lake County Security with access control and camera investigations.
  • Assist Abbott Fire Department with extinguisher and AED checks.
  • Instruct CPR/AED/First Aid classes.
  • Security presence at special events
  • Provide security presence during employee terminations, when requested.
  • Attend monthly ALERT trainings.
  • Assist with IDLH confined space standbys.
  • Assist Abbott’s contractual guard service with perimeter security.
  • Any tasks or assignments given by manager or supervisor.
