About The Position

The Associate Vice President will lead sourcing strategy across an enterprise spend portfolio exceeding $3.5 + billion annually , supporting the University of Miami and the rapidly expanding UHealth academic health system. This leader will play a central role in advancing supply chain transformation initiatives , including category management, physician-engaged value analysis, supplier strategy, and digital procurement modernization. Reporting to the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the AVP will oversee enterprise sourcing strategies across clinical and non-clinical categories. Working closely with physicians, operational leaders, and administrative stakeholders, the AVP will drive initiatives that optimize total system value, strengthen supplier partnerships, and enhance operational performance across the University and health system. The AVP oversees enterprise sourcing operations including: Strategic sourcing Category management Value analysis Contracting and supplier management Procurement governance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
  • Minimum of 12–15 years of progressive experience in healthcare supply chain, sourcing, or procurement, including leadership roles within complex health systems or academic medical centers
  • Experience leading category management programs across clinical and non-clinical spend categories
  • Experience optimizing group purchasing organization (GPO) relationships while identifying opportunities for strategic sourcing and direct supplier engagement
  • Demonstrated success leading sourcing strategy, contract negotiations, and value analysis programs within complex healthcare environments
  • Deep understanding of contract lifecycle management, supplier negotiations, GPO strategies, and digital procurement platforms (e.g., SAP, Coupa)
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing large-scale spend portfolios and driving cost optimization initiatives
  • Advanced negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and change management capabilities
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to navigate complex organizations with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience leveraging data to inform sourcing strategies and operational improvements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to build high-performing teams and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Experience leveraging enterprise analytics platforms and procurement technologies
  • Ability to develop, execute, and sustain strategic plans that support institutional goals

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Sourcing Leadership : Develop and lead enterprise-wide sourcing and category strategies that align with institutional priorities including cost management, operational resilience, innovation, and sustainability. Govern enterprise third-party spend across clinical and non-clinical categories while establishing financial and operational targets aligned with institutional benchmarks. Oversee the full contract lifecycle, including strategic sourcing, competitive bidding, supplier negotiations, and management of group purchasing organization (GPO) relationships.
  • Clinical Resource Management : Lead a physician-engaged Value Analysis program in partnership with clinical leadership to evaluate new technologies, standardize products, and ensure evidence-based resource utilization while preserving clinical autonomy and innovation. Partner with physicians, clinicians, and operational leaders to ensure sourcing and product decisions are clinically driven and outcomes focused.
  • Supply Chain Resilience and Supplier Strategy : Develop strategies to enhance supply chain resiliency, including supplier diversification, inventory optimization, and proactive risk monitoring. Manage supplier performance and risk by identifying vulnerabilities within the supply chain and implementing mitigation and continuity strategies.
  • Digital Supply Chain and Analytics : Advance digital supply chain capabilities including spend analytics, contract lifecycle management, automation of procurement workflows, and predictive analytics to improve sourcing decisions, compliance, and operational visibility.
  • Organizational Leadership and Financial Stewardship : Build and lead a high-performing sourcing and procurement organization, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and enterprise alignment across the University and UHealth. Monitor departmental financial performance and utilize data-driven analysis to guide staffing models, operational budgets, and resource allocation. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and University procurement policies while safeguarding institutional assets and ensuring the integrity of procurement operations. Establish and maintain an effective control environment through risk assessment, implementation of controls, and ongoing monitoring of sourcing and procurement activities.
