About The Position

Summary: The Assistive Technology Specialist position is primarily responsible for providing assistive training services to blind and low vision clients using a variety of adaptive technologies and individualized customized training. This position will work directly with key Lighthouse personnel, vendors, and customers with guidance and direction from the Manager of Education and Training. The Assistive Technology Specialist must set a good example and constantly demonstrate the Light (LIGHT) Principles of Leadership, Integrity, Growth, Humility and Trust. It is important for individuals to be committed to a continuous learning environment and a champion for change, with a teamwork mentality. Mission: To enable and empower people who are blind or low vision to realize their full potential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Bachelor or Associate Degree or Certification spec
  • Must have 1 to 2 years of relevant transcription experience.
  • Prior Transcriptionist experience required.
  • Significant experience with traditional computer system operation and navigation as well as adaptive technologies utilized by the blind and low vision.
  • Fluency in smart phone technologies for the blind and low vision (iPhone preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Must have good time management skills and the ability to plan and organize tasks to complete them in a suitable amount of time.
  • Must be trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality of information disclosed by the customers and abide by the disclosure guidelines.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and personalities.
  • Able to work safely and follow the company safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to research and look up client information using software and programs provided by the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize and work at a high level of accuracy.
  • High multi-tasking and organizational skills, time-management, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, adapt to fast-paced work conditions and changes and expectations of the clients.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Good computer skills and able to adapt to different software programs such as Microsoft Office, assistive technology and client provided systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer, printer, scanner, telephone, and use of assistive technology such as Zoom Text, Jaws, or other Blind/Low Vision assistive technology aids, strong level of confidentiality due to sensitivity of materials and information needed.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all safety protocols, processes and procedures and ensures clients follow all safety rules.
  • Train clients and associates on a variety of adaptive technologies including JAWS, Zoom Text, Microsoft Office products, smartphones, and iOS and Android app technology.
  • Assesses client skillset and determines most appropriate training and education opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains client relationships and coordinates scheduling of client appointments.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records for services performed for clients.
  • Maintains a high level of communication amongst the internal and external partners.
  • Provides on-the-job training and coaching to employees as time permits.
  • Provide program output reporting support and submit billing reports for work performed as required.
  • Reviews and assesses direct training processes, procedures, and systems with the Education and Training Manager that are necessary for program success.
  • Researches and learns new technology for staying apprised and aware of the latest software and training material.
  • Customizes and plans an outcome-focused training program tailored to individual needs.
  • Schedules and provides reports of all client trainings to organization and Education and Training Manager for review and approval.
  • Protects the data integrity of the training to ensure information is confidential and secure and only shared with the client or other assigned designees.
  • Follows all confidentiality rules to preserve data quality and reduce chance for information or compromise.
  • Attends team meetings when required and provides updates, suggestions or concerns for team and process improvement.
  • Follows and complies with the organization’s Code of Conduct, Harassment and Workplace policies and procedures and customer’s workplace policies.
  • Update manager with any work issues or concerns immediately after discovery or being notified via required information source.
  • Performs other related job duties as needed.
