  • A Bachelor’s degree minimum.
  • Must have a valid Arkansas teacher’s license.
  • Must meet State Department of Education requirements for coaching endorsement.
  • Must meet Arkansas Activities Association requirements for coaches.
  • Knowledge of Arkansas Activities Association (AAA Handbook) rules
  • Evidence of strong commitment to quality education

Responsibilities

  • Help students master subject content and credentialing skills that contribute to their educational, social development, and career/college readiness, incorporating a framework clustered into four domains of teaching responsibility: planning and preparation, classroom environment, instruction, and professional responsibilities.
  • Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in the assigned sport.
  • Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so they are successfully competitive.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences, demonstrating pedagogy, knowledge of students, instructional goals, knowledge of resources, coherent instruction, and assessing student learning.
  • Establishes a culture of learning: managing classroom procedure and student behavior, as well as organizing physical space. Applies appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved – communicating with students, using questioning and discussion techniques, engaging students in learning, using assessment in instruction, and utilizing technology. Effectively infuses technology into instructional activities and the overall learning experiences.
  • Develops and adheres to professional responsibilities – reflecting on teaching, maintaining accurate records, communication with families, contributing to the assigned School and the District at large, growing and developing professionally, showing professionalism, using data to inform instruction.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and good sportsmanship.
  • Work with other members of the school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
  • Ensure that all coaches on staff work together toward a common goal with in program and provide unity with the feeder schools.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Work with the Director of Athletics and athletic coordinator to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the program.
  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Maintains, files, and copies all pertinent LRSD/AAA materials, eligibility forms, transfer forms, grade reports, and ensures the LRSD/AAA guidelines are followed.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of conduct and student handbook.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, teachers, athletic coordinators and Director of Athletics.
  • Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within program.
  • Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.
  • Annually establish and meet performance goals.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students in an academy structure.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in sport involved.
  • Develop an academic program for student-athlete for NCAA Clearinghouse scholarship eligibility and ACT preparation.
  • Adheres to District, State and Arkansas Activities Association’s regulations regarding eligibility of players.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
