About The Position

The AVP, Product Owner at Pennymac is a key leader for our Enterprise Data Management platform, defining and maintaining the “golden record” for our customers. You will manage a technical backend team that ensures our customer data is accurate, accessible, and compliant across the organization. You will ensure that back-end data platforms are perfectly synced, serving as the bridge between our various Business Units, Marketing, Compliance and Engineering. You will turn business requirements into technical execution, maintaining a high-performance backend that powers the Pennymac customer experience for marketing outreach.

Requirements

  • 5+ years as a Product Owner in Agile/Scrum environments with proven success managing backlogs and shipping products
  • Proficient foundation in software architecture, backend services, microservices, and RESTful API design
  • Expertise writing user stories that capture functional and non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, reliability)
  • Demonstrated ability making complex prioritization decisions and articulating rationale to stakeholders
  • Ability to translate between technical and business domains with engineers, designers, and executives
  • Working knowledge of SQL, data modeling, and data-driven decision making
  • Experience in system design discussions including data models, service boundaries, and integration patterns
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO)
  • Experience in FinTech, mortgage lending, banking, or regulated financial services
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or Salesforce integrations within a data platform context.
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud-native data environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own and prioritize the team's product backlog (API enhancements, infrastructure work, technical debt) balancing feature velocity, platform stability, scalability, and security
  • Serve as the final authority on "Done," ensuring that data modeling, API enhancements, and system integrations meet our high standards for accuracy and performance.
  • Lead Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement and sprint planning, articulating the "why" behind priorities
  • Partner with the Product Manager to align team execution with broader product strategy
  • Research industry patterns and emerging technologies relevant to the team's domain
