The Opportunity Leverage your industry expertise and join our expanding team in the Assistant Underwriter-Large Accounts role! The Assistant Underwriter-Large Accounts plays a critical role in supporting the Large Account Underwriting Specialists with the underwriting and management of complex commercial accounts across multiple lines of business. Alongside Large Account Underwriting Specialists this position will assist in risk evaluation, policy structuring, and underwriting analysis, ensuring profitable growth while maintaining strong agency relationships The success of our company is rooted in teamwork, the way we care about the people we work with and service. This hybrid role will work in our Raleigh office a minimum of two days with the flexibility of remote work three days a week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of experience in underwriting support, insurance operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities for effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with underwriting software/systems.
  • Exposure to large accounts in Property and Casualty underwriting including products, policy processing procedures, and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset that can multitask in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial underwriting analysis and prepare detailed underwriting files to evaluate, quote, and manage large accounts effectively.
  • Handle endorsement requests within delegated authority and refer those outside of their authority with well-considered recommendations.
  • Proactively engage with agencies on submission status, clarify the intent of endorsement or address missing information.
  • Partner closely with Large Account Underwriting Specialists and various departments to ensure seamless service delivery for large accounts.
  • Maintain complete and accurate file documentation, ensuring compliance with regulations, company policies, and quality standards (OSHA logs, loss runs, correspondence, experience rating analysis, etc.)
  • Actively participate in team meetings to review account pipelines, share insights, and contribute to process and workflow improvements.
  • Build and nurture relationships with agencies by participating in virtual or in-person meetings with account executives and their teams.
  • Stay informed about lines-of-business strategies, state/territory issues, regulations, emerging trends, and competitive insights to support underwriting decisions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly addressing inquiries and requests and escalating complex matters to large account underwriting specialists when necessary.
  • Serve as an expert on systems. workflows and processes offering guidance and training to the underwriting and ASR teams as needed.
