About The Position

Responsible for representing the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma in deprived actions in the Choctaw Nation District Court and for staffing cases with ICW regarding investigation and permanency, cases in which the tribe has concurrent jurisdiction and potential transfer cases. You will report to the Lead Tribal Prosecutor.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law by a State within the United States
  • Experience with criminal, juvenile, and deprived case procedures.
  • Five [5] years of experience as a prosecuting attorney and tribal attorney general position
  • Jury trial experience in felony, misdemeanor and deprived custody cases

  • Represent the Choctaw Nation in all juvenile cases and deprived actions within the jurisdiction of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
  • Facilitate communication with professionals in the legal community, ICW, and federal, state, and local officials to coordinate juvenile matters involving or related to members of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
  • Maintain good inter-departmental relations and communication with the judicial department, Children and Family Services, State offices, all law enforcement departments and other legal departments.
  • Help draft legislation affecting children and juvenile laws, to be considered by the Tribal Council, as directed by the Senior Executive Officer.
  • Confer with the Lead Prosecutor, Executive Director of Legal and Children and Family Services making referrals for the transfer of cases that may be prosecuted in the Choctaw Nation District Court.
  • Assist CN Tribal Police and ICW investigators.
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned.
