This position provides patient transportation to and from inpatient, ambulatory, and ancillary departments as determined by identified support areas of service. Patient transportation is performed via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed. The role requires knowledge of the working components of transport equipment and safe patient handling equipment. The Assistant ensures patient safety throughout the transportation process, handling patients whose status can range from stable to critical. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development across the life span, with the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs. Understanding of policies on Standard Precautions, MRI safety, Back Safety, Isolation Techniques, medical emergency response, and appropriate Hand-off procedures (SBAR) is essential. The Assistant will also assist modalities with additional duties to encourage efficiency.
