Receives on-the-job training, observes the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects, under the direction of a Construction Manager or their designee. Primary Focus Will Include: Performs tasks and duties under direct supervision, with work reviewed by supervisor before submission. Knows basic math skills. Understands Microsoft Office Suite and other computer skills at a basic level. Collaborates by building partnerships and working cooperatively with others within HNTB to meet shared objectives. Effectively communicates by attentively listening to others and relaying an understanding of direction. Actively learns when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning opportunities. -There will be some night and weekend work

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 1 year of construction experience.
  • All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.
  • Knows basic math skills.
  • Understands Microsoft Office Suite and other computer skills at a basic level.
  • Performs tasks and duties under direct supervision, with work reviewed by supervisor before submission.

Nice To Haves

  • AAS in Civil Engineering Technology is strongly preferred.
  • Must be physically fit, have a driver’s license, not be afraid of heights and have good communication and computer skills.
  • Experience with Word, Excel and MicroStation.
  • Ability to travel to Long Island - Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Responsibilities

  • Observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans.
  • Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.
  • Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform rudimentary mathematical calculations and measurements of completed work to date.
  • Maintains Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
  • Assists in on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
