About The Position

The position is for a full-time, non-tenure track teaching professor on a nine-month appointment. The successful candidate will teach up to four course sections per semester, with a maximum of eight course sections over the nine-month period. The primary responsibility entails teaching meteorology courses to online students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Program, as well as the Master of Science Applied Meteorology Program. The appointment is also likely to include some face-to-face teaching for our Starkville Main Campus. The primary teaching needs include courses in operational weather forecasting, satellite & radar meteorology, and severe weather, as well as other coursework aligned with the candidate’s specialization. Summer teaching opportunities for additional compensation may be available depending on enrollment. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department. The Department of Geosciences currently has 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty, four teaching professors, and six full-time instructors. Within the department, there are four areas of disciplinary emphasis: Geology, Geography, Geospatial Science, and Atmospheric Science, which offer numerous opportunities for transdisciplinary collaboration focused on the global climate system. Mississippi State University holds the “Very High Research Activity” (R1) designation from the Carnegie Foundation and is ranked in the top 100 for research and development expenditures among all institutions in the National Science Foundation Higher Education Research and Development Survey. The Department of Geosciences provides undergraduate and graduate degree tracks in professional meteorology, broadcast meteorology and an acclaimed online meteorology program. Requirements

  • A Ph.D. degree with minimum of 18 hours in meteorology or related field.
  • Demonstration, evidence, and commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Background knowledge of meteorology is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred qualifications include demonstrated ability to provide instructional examples showcasing application of course materials, being able to teach online, and illustrating ability to explain quantitative content to students with diverse educational backgrounds are highly desirable.

Responsibilities
