About The Position

The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a teaching faculty position in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor with a start date of August 16, 2026. This is a 2-year full-time term faculty position with the possibility for renewal and carries a four course per semester teaching load. Renewal parameters are determined by performance and school need. We seek a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague who can support the development of pre-service elementary mathematics teachers. The successful candidate should demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to equitable and evidence-based mathematics methodology, and experience with professional mathematics documents such as the Iowa Academic Standards or Common Core and NCTM's Effective Practices. Specifically, we are looking for a faculty colleague to: (a) teach undergraduate methods courses in elementary mathematics; (b) teach other courses in our elementary education program, such as undergraduate foundations of education courses; and (c) participate in School of Education service, including program and school-level meetings and committees. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field
  • Completion of a teacher preparation program
  • Licensure/certification (in any state) in elementary education
  • Three years of experience as an elementary school teacher using Iowa Academic Standards for Mathematics or Common Core Standard for Mathematics

  • Advanced coursework or PhD in elementary mathematics education or closely related field
  • Experience preparing/supporting elementary school teachers
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the post-secondary level
  • More than three years as a successful elementary teacher
  • Experience providing professional development on the Iowa Academic Standards or Common Core and NCTM's Effective Practices
