About The Position

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent leads and supports the administration of leadership development and school improvement in the district. Will supervise elementary, middle, and high school principals, Career and Technical Education, and federal programs/projects.

  • Must hold, or be eligible to hold, and principal or district leadership certification issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a school principal and minimum of 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an advisor to the Superintendent.
  • Has the ability to serve as acting superintendent in the superintendent’s absence.
  • Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and as the superintendent’s Chief of Staff.
  • Supervises and evaluates school principals, providing them with actionable and growth-oriented feedback.
  • Oversees weekly principal meetings and collaboration.
  • Guides and supports school principals.
  • Oversees leadership development for school principals.
  • Directly supervises the Grants and Federal Programs Coordinator and the Career and Technical Education department.
  • Oversees the implementation and accountability of school improvement plans and ensures alignment with the district’s strategic plan.
  • Delivers written and oral presentations on leadership and learning accountability to various stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, cabinet, principals, teachers, parents, and community groups.
  • Serves as an appeals officer for personnel, academic, and policy issues.
  • Coordinates with the Chief Student Advocacy Officer to ensure all student services, including Special Education and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), are implemented with fidelity.
  • Coordinates with the Chief Human Resources Officer to ensure appropriate staffing is in place.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with the Chief Academic Officer to ensure Board-adopted curriculum is implemented with fidelity and that all students have access to high-quality content and instruction.
  • Collaborates with school systems, community agencies, the Wyoming Department of Education, and the University of Wyoming to promote shared learning.
  • Establishes direction for school improvement efforts and monitors the progress of school performance, student achievement objectives, and academic excellence indicators to align strategies for improvement.
  • Ensures professional development for leaders and teachers is aligned with the strategic plan, addresses student learning needs, and is job-embedded, actionable, and impactful.
  • Attends Board of Trustees meetings.
  • Required to work in person and on site.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
  • Follows the policies and procedures of the school(s) and the District.
  • Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework, workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees, taskforces, in-depth studies, or councils).
  • Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately; exhibiting sensitivity to those with special needs; maintaining good professional relationships with parents and community members; and presenting a good role model.
