About The Position

The Assistant Superintendent of Operations is responsible for initiating and implementing new methods and procedures to enhance the efficiencies of operations for their facility. The incumbent in this position monitors the daily functions of the facility to ensure orderly operations of Operation areas and acts as Chief Administrative Officer in the absence of the Superintendent. This role is critical to the success of the facility and supervises a team of operation managers, security staff, dietary staff, and engineering/maintenance workers. This position would be an excellent fit for someone with a passion for criminal justice reform and rehabilitation. Requirements

  • Requires the knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree from an accredited college or university with the specialization in criminal justice, education, psychology, social work, or a closely related social science.
  • Required prior experience equivalent to four (4) years progressively responsible administrative experience managing projects or people in a public or business organization with two (2) years of specific experience serving adolescents or young adults who are involved with the legal, child welfare, or behavioral health system.
  • Requires the ability to pass IDOC/IDJJ background check
  • Requires the ability to pass IDOC/IDJJ drug screening
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file aStatement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file theSupplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers management experience within a juvenile justice secure facility or other residential setting.
  • Prefers management experience in a collective bargaining environment, specifically following a labor contract while managing staff.
  • Prefers knowledge of juvenile justice best practices including community-based alternatives to incarceration, Prison Rape Elimination Act requirements, and strategies to reduce confinement.
  • Prefers facility operations and maintenance experience.
  • Prefers dietary operations experience.
  • Prefers experience with 24/7 on-call and management of crises.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Assistant Superintendent of Operations.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Reviews data to assist and confer with the Superintendent in establishing overall institution policies, facility budget preparation.
  • Completes inspection tours of facility to ensure compliance with safety and security standards.
  • Attends administrative staff meetings and conferences.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
