About The Position

The Assistant Superintendent - Golf Course plays a critical role in supporting the Superintendent in the overall management and maintenance of the golf course grounds to ensure optimal playing conditions and aesthetic appeal. This position involves hands-on supervision of turfgrass care, irrigation systems, pest management, and equipment maintenance, contributing directly to the quality and safety of the course. The Assistant Superintendent collaborates with the team to implement agronomic practices that promote healthy turf and sustainable resource use, while also assisting in budgeting and inventory management. This role requires proactive problem-solving to address environmental challenges and course wear, ensuring a superior experience for golfers. Ultimately, the Assistant Superintendent helps maintain the golf course as a premier facility that meets both operational standards and member expectations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or Bachelor's Degree turfgrass management
  • Pesticide applicator license or certification or ability to be certified within the first 90 days of employment
  • Basic knowledge of turfgrass science, pest control, and irrigation systems.
  • Ability to operate and maintain golf course equipment safely.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of experience in golf course maintenance or turf management.
  • Experience working as an Assistant Superintendent or in a supervisory role on a golf course.
  • Familiarity with computerized irrigation and maintenance management systems.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and supervising daily golf course maintenance activities including mowing, fertilizing, aeration, and irrigation.
  • Monitor turf health and soil conditions, applying fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Operate and maintain golf course equipment, ensuring all machinery is in safe and efficient working order.
  • Support the Superintendent in managing staff schedules, training, and performance to maintain a productive and motivated team.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, chemical applications, and equipment repairs.
  • Assist in budget preparation and inventory control to optimize resource allocation and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to develop and implement long-term agronomic plans and course improvement projects.
  • Respond promptly to course issues and member feedback to ensure high standards of playability and appearance.
