About The Position

The Assistant Store Director (ASD) supports the overall leadership, direction, and operational performance of the store. This role assists the Store Director in driving sales, ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining operational excellence, ensuring compliance with company standards, coaching and developing department leaders, and fostering a positive and productive work environment. Requirements

  • Previous retail management or grocery leadership experience required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Strong knowledge of store operations, merchandising, and financial performance.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficiency with store systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft applications.
  • Flexible availability including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, and move for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry product or equipment within company safety guidelines.
  • Ability to work in various store environments including sales floor, cooler/freezer, and backroom.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of outstanding customer service, ensuring fast, friendly, and helpful interactions throughout the store.
  • Support Store Director in daily leadership of department managers and hourly associates.
  • Address customer concerns, service issues, and escalations promptly and professionally.
  • Serve as Manager‑on‑Duty (MOD) to provide storewide support and make real‑time decisions.
  • Ensure store conditions meet company expectations for cleanliness, in‑stock position, merchandising, signage, and overall presentation.
  • Oversee accurate execution of planograms, promotional sets, and seasonal programs.
  • Assist in monitoring store safety, sanitation, equipment operation, and maintenance needs.
  • Support the execution of store audits, inspections, and corporate initiatives.
  • Assist in achieving store sales goals, gross profit targets, and shrink reduction strategies.
  • Review sales trends, labor reports, waste, and department performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support the Store Director in managing labor budgets, weekly scheduling, and labor optimization.
  • Monitor and support proper cash handling procedures, front‑end accuracy, and audit compliance.
  • Support hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and training of store associates and department leads.
  • Coach and develop department managers to improve leadership skills, operational performance, and team engagement.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, document performance, and support corrective actions when required.
  • Promote succession planning and identify high‑potential associates for advancement.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, workplace safety procedures, and food safety standards.
  • Support execution of safety audits, hazard assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of personnel, financial, and operational information.
  • Support inventory management, ordering discipline, and backroom organization across departments.
  • Ensure proper rotation, code‑date compliance, and shrink‑control procedures.
  • Assist departments with merchandising resets, product flow, and promotional readiness.
  • Ensure effective communication between Store Director, department managers, and associates.
  • Assist with store meetings, manager huddles, training sessions, and communication of new programs.
  • Act as a liaison between store teams and district/division leadership.
