The ASA assigned to the assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) grant position in the Behavioral Health Unit helps those who are suffering from serious mental illness, as well as those who care for them in the community. This federally funded grant, administered in collaboration with Cook County Health and Hospital Systems, funds an assisted outpatient treatment program designed to assist persons suffering from serious mental illness, who may also have history of hospitalization due to non-compliance with medication and treatment. The grant is intended to increase public safety and decrease future hospitalization and incarceration of participants, by providing them consistent access to, and assistance in maintaining, a proper treatment program. Court oversight and accountability for non-compliance, fosters participant ownership in the process and treatment goals.
