The Vermont Division of Fire Safety is seeking a team-orientated individual with a strong background in building construction trades, blueprint reading/review, and building code enforcement to join our team as an Assistant State Fire Marshal in our Waterbury Regional Office. The primary assignment of this position will be conducting construction document review and permitting in an office setting. The candidate must be able to multitask efficiently and have strong computer and technical skills. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Regional Manager. Duties will include but are not limited to: Providing customer service to walk in customers Review, respond or delegate response to incoming emails and phone calls Provide code support to field-based fire inspectors Issue construction permits for a large variety of building systems and construction projects Review construction documents with design professionals from a wide variety of fields. Receives and reviews for completeness all permit applications for new construction and renovations of public buildings. This position will be office based with limited opportunities for remote or telework at the discretion of the supervisor. Incumbents must posses a valid drivers license and will be subject to a fingerprint supported background check as required for employment with the Department of Public Safety. Emergencies may require work outside of normal work schedule. Field duties may require work in contaminated environments and may require protective clothing and equipment.
