Our commitment to quality is unparalleled, thanks to the dedication of each quality team member.Position OverviewThe Assistant Safety Coordinator (Manager) will support the Sr. Safety Coordinator (Manager) in overseeing the health and safety programs within the manufacturing facilities on the main Johnsonville campus. This individual will help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a culture of safety across the workplace. The Assistant Safety Coordinator will play a key role in identifying potential hazards, conducting safety inspections, and assisting in accident investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required
  • OSHA certification (e.g., OSHA 30-hour) required
  • 4 years of experience leading safety in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Leadership: Ability to inspire, guide, and support a team in implementing safety programs and initiatives. Demonstrates initiative and accountability in driving safety culture and continuous improvement.
  • Problem Solving & Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex safety-related issues, investigate root causes, and develop effective solutions. Critical thinking skills are essential for hazard identification and risk mitigation.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to effectively train members, report safety issues, and communicate with management. Ability to engage with members at all levels and encourage open discussion about safety concerns.
  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail in conducting safety audits, inspections, and investigations. Ensures all safety procedures are followed accurately, and documentation is precise and thorough.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of OSHA, state, and local safety regulations, and the ability to apply these standards effectively to the manufacturing environment. Stays updated with new safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Decision-Making: Strong decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize actions effectively. Can make quick and informed decisions in emergency situations while minimizing risk.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Safety culture of ownership, involvement and personal accountability.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and other relevant regulations.
  • Complete risk assessments to mitigate potential safety risks within operations.
  • Oversee planning and delivery of safety training programs for members on topics such as hazard recognition, personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response, and safe work practices.
  • Responsible for alignment of human safety standards in capital improvement and technical projects
  • Deliver ongoing education and awareness campaigns to promote a safety-first culture across all departments.
  • Leading the system for investigation of workplace accidents or near-misses, gathering information and documenting findings, and ensuring accountability to corrective actions.
  • Recommend corrective actions to prevent future incidents or injuries.
  • Conduct emergency drills and ensure members are familiar with emergency procedures.
  • Act as a first responder in case of emergencies, providing immediate assistance or coordination as necessary.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Sr. Safety Coordinator and plant leadership on safety-related issues and initiatives.
  • Lead the facility Safety Committees, Ergonomic Committee, Process Safety Management (PSM) Team and other teams to drive compliance to safety programs.
  • Actively participate in continuous learning to grow knowledge and skills through classes, webcasts/seminars, OSHA compliance trainings.
  • Facilitate new hire orientation.
  • Day to day engagement with plant leaders and members on the floor to support them in solving safety-related issues.
  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with Operations and Maintenance leadership to proactively address safety concerns, troubleshoot issues, and identify opportunities for improvement. Regularly engage with these teams to align safety priorities and ensure mutual support in achieving safety goals.
