About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to receive and respond to the public¿s request to inspect public records related to the Lexington Police Department (LPD).

Requirements

  • High school Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • Additional years of related education may substitute for years of related experience
  • All positions in this job classification require drug testing, background check and polygraph before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16.
  • Employees must not have been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor.
  • Employees in this position will handle potentially sensitive information and shall adhere to applicable confidentiality and privacy standards.

Responsibilities

  • Locates, retrieves, and prepares police department records for public inspection in accordance with the Kentucky Open Records Act and related regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures
  • Researches open records-related laws, regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures to accurately determine whether or not the requested records in whole or in part are subject to public inspection
  • Drafts a written response to requests for public records; and, if applicable, cites a specific exemption that would authorize LPD to withhold a record and provides a brief explanation of how the exemption applies to any records withheld
  • Responds to public inquires related to open records requests such as how to make a request, what records can be inspected, how to get copies of records, etc.
  • Files and retrieves archived records in accordance with the Lexington-Fayette County Urban County Government¿s Records Retention Schedule
  • Performs related work as assigned
