About The Position

GSM Services is growing, and we’re looking for a motivated Assistant Project Manager to join our Commercial HVAC team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on mechanical design experience who thrives in a collaborative environment and wants to grow into a long-term career in project management. You’ll work closely with estimators, sales advisors, engineers, project managers, and field teams to help design, coordinate, and transition projects from concept through completion. As an Assistant Project Manager, you will support the planning, design, coordination, and execution of commercial HVAC projects.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in a related field (Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical system design and development (preferred)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other drafting/modeling programs (Revit 2012 or higher preferred)
  • Familiarity with scheduling software and estimating processes
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, installation costs, and mechanical layouts
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, civil, and structural drawings
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Professional appearance and strong work ethic
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of HVAC
  • Support the transition of projects from estimators and sales advisors to field project managers
  • Perform load calculations, energy simulations, equipment selections, and life-cycle cost analyses
  • Develop and maintain project engineering scopes alongside Project Managers
  • Create HVAC design documents including duct sizing and routing, air distribution, pipe sizing, and layouts
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations
  • Coordinate mechanical requirements with architects and electrical, structural, and civil engineers
  • Help finalize estimates and proposals for production and field use
  • Manage submittals, shop drawings, equipment lists, and related documentation
  • Perform job site inspections and prepare field reports
  • Assist with planning meetings and manage project close-out, including as-built drawings
  • Support initial job setup, material pulls, and purchase order creation
  • Maintain clear communication with customers, contractors, and internal teams
