About The Position

Under the supervision and direction of the Program Coordinator (PC) or Program Manager (PM), the Assistant Program Coordinator (APC) ensures the quality of the Group Residence through direct support of individuals served and supports the daily performance of the house staff in accordance with May Center policies and procedures. They work and interact with individuals with neurological (e.g., autism spectrum disorder) and developmental disabilities, including those with significant challenging behaviors. The Assistant Program Coordinator will be required to implement physical management procedures as needed, using Safety Care approved interventions. The Assistant Program Coordinator carries out these responsibilities with respect and dignity and with adherence to May Institute policies and procedures and the Mission, Vision, and Values of May Institute.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and Valid Driver’s License required
  • Prior experience supporting individuals with developmental disabiliites and implementing physical intervention strategies (e.g., Safety Care)
  • The ability to move independently throughout a wide range of environments, is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Minimum one year prior experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support (in-ratio) to individuals served as scheduled.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the philosophy of the May Institute and demonstrate proficiency in using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA; e.g., antecedent manipulations, establishing instructional control, use of reinforcement contingencies, etc.).
  • Implement individualized programs/plans (e.g. Individualized Education Programs, IEPs, Short Term Objectives (STO’s), ISPs, IFSPs, Treatment Plans, etc.) and collects data on programs as indicated in the program book and (e.g., discrete trial, chaining, shaping etc.) in accordance with the program schedule.
  • Provide assistance to individuals served in personal hygiene and self-care tasks and coordinate receipt of emergency medical care, if needed.
  • Report incidents, following state Mandated Reporter guidelines.
  • Support delivery of safe, clean, and appropriate residential program in accordance with local/state regulations, Program standards, and documentation of maintenance concerns as needed.
  • Assist Program Coordinators (PCs) with ensuring maintenance of a clean, safe, and hygienic environment, including monitoring levels of food, goods (e.g., clothing and personal items) and adhering to daily living routines.
  • Assist in planning or accompanying individuals served on approved outings, supporting opportunities and access for creative outings and completion of community outing documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to appropriate staff to student ratios.
  • Provide or arrange transportation, for outings (e.g., public, May Institute vehicles, personal vehicles, on-foot) in accordance with all relevant May Institute policies regarding off-grounds activities, reporting any issues with maintenance or upkeep of May Institute vehicles.
  • Ensure program data for individuals served are entered and up to date.
  • Complete assessment tools as assigned by PC (by direction of the ACD) or others.
  • Complete assigned documentation and supports staff with meeting documentation requirements/expectations.
  • Ensure clinical team is apprised of information relevant to service delivery (e.g., behavioral changes; demographic and medical information).
  • Support the delivery of an intensive therapeutic program for the individual served while they are out of the classrooms.
  • Review and maintain current knowledge of each individual’s program/plan (IEP, BSP, ESP, ISP, IFSP, Treatment Plan, etc.).
  • Ensure timely implementation of programming to meet daily schedules.
  • Implement programs to meet the objectives for the student in his/her charge.
  • Support implementation of safety protocols as designed and in accordance with funder, licensure, and accreditor requirements and state and federal regulations.
  • Prioritize client well-being and outcomes throughout service delivery, adhering to all local and state guidelines (e.g., Mandated Reporter).
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals served during assigned shifts.
  • Enhance quality of services provided through both review and curation of all relevant social and medical information of individuals served in their care as well as in the organization’s continuous improvement processes to increase productivity and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Promote the rights and dignity of individuals served throughout service delivery, by encouraging student autonomy and choice in delivery of educational programming supports and services.
  • Adhere to all Policies and Procedures of the May Center School pertaining to Student Protections and Student Records, following ethical and confidentiality standards of the May Institute.
  • Build constructive working relationships characterized by high levels of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect.
  • Display a positive attitude when interacting with others, promoting cooperation and teamwork, and contributing to a work environment that embraces and appreciates diversity.

  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and guidelines of the May Institute (i.e., requesting time off work, call out procedures, etc.), Federal, State, and Local laws/regulations, as well as any relevant licensor, accreditor, and/or Funder guidelines.
  • Provide and maintain all required documentation as needed for continued employment (e.g., background check information, TB test, driver’s license, transcripts, licenses/certifications) and completion of all required trainings (e.g. Safety Care, CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporting, etc.).
  • Provide appropriate praise and recognition to staff.
  • Practice effective conflict-resolution skills and provide effective corrective feedback to staff, as appropriate.
  • Assist Program Coordinators (PC) in delivering supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals served by ensuring that all staff are adhering to requirements, training, protocols, policies, procedures and plans, providing coaching and guidance as needed.
  • Supervise staff on shift to ensure plans, protocols, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Assist Program Coordinators (PC), manager(s) on call, and the Residential Scheduling Coordinator to ensure consistent staff coverage at the homes.
  • Assist Program Coordinators (PC), when needed, in provision of feedback regarding timecards or recording time, as well as notifying PC and/or Human Resources of any ongoing issues.
  • Review Work Performance Standards (WPS) and participates in the performance evaluation process with direct reports on an annual basis.
  • Identify performance issues as they arise and addresses them through corrective action, training, and adherence to the Progressive Discipline Policy.
