The Assistant Professor of Biology teaching duties include the department's core courses and classes in comparative and experimental physiology, developmental physiology, or evolutionary developmental biology. The candidate is expected to complement and enhance the existing strength of the department by establishing an extramurally funded research program and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students within their area of expertise. Service to the department, college, and the university is expected of all faculty. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in Biology, with a focus on developmental biology, embryology, or organismal biology.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching
  • Ability to provide effective mentorship
  • Ability to work, communicate, and collaborate in a departmental team from a variety of research backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year of postdoctoral experience
  • Experience teaching and developing courses in comparative and experimental physiology, developmental physiology, or evolutionary developmental biology
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to student-centered instruction and evidence-based teaching methods
  • Evidence of a commitment to science education outreach and/or community engagement
  • Knowledge of different methods of student learning and assessment
  • A track record of research productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching duties include the department's core courses and upper-level courses in the candidate's specialty
  • Establish and maintain a research program that incorporates undergraduates and graduate students with external funding
  • Provide service to the Biology Department, the Donaghey College of STEM, and the University
