About The Position

The School of Medicine's Office of the Dean seeks an innovative and dedicated Assistant Professor in Health Professions Education (HPE) to contribute to the missions of the School of Medicine and HPE graduate programs through excellence in teaching, curriculum and assessment development, and student advising. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to advancing health professions education through evidence-based instructional practices, innovative curriculum design, and scholarly engagement. A proven ability to design and implement effective assessments and assessment tools that support authentic learning in a generative AI–enhanced educational environment is essential.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DHPE, or equivalent) in education, health professions education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in online teaching at the graduate or professional level.
  • 1+ years of recent (since the advent of generative AI tools) experience teaching graduate online courses.
  • Proven ability to convert existing assessments into assessments for online programs that support authentic learning and the development of critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills in adults
  • 2+ years of experience in curriculum development, assessment, or educational program leadership.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity or potential for research in health professions education.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of recent (since the advent of generative AI tools) experience teaching in online or hybrid learning environments.
  • 3+ years of experience in curriculum development, assessment, or educational program leadership.
  • 2+ recent experience in assessment practices for online or hybrid learning environments.
  • Familiarity with SACSCOC accreditation standards.
  • Interprofessional or interdisciplinary teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Course Development and Instruction: Design, develop, and teach HPE graduate courses with excellence; provide comprehensive course management including curriculum alignment, instructional design, and student feedback.
  • Curriculum and Assessment Leadership: Contribute to HPE program curriculum development and continuous improvement; design and implement valid, authentic assessments that promote critical thinking and clinical reasoning in graduate learners, including in online and hybrid environments.
  • Committee Service: Serve as an active member of the HPE Curriculum Committee; participate in program assessment activities and contribute to program evaluation and strategic planning.
  • Student Advising and Mentoring: Provide professional mentoring and advising graduate students in the HPE programs, supporting their academic and professional development.
  • Scholarly Engagement: While this is an educator position, candidates are expected to engage in scholarly activity that includes collaborative research or the development of innovative teaching techniques.
  • Faculty Citizenship: Contribute to the service mission of the School of Medicine and actively participate in faculty governance and collegial activities as assigned.
