About The Position

The Mental Health Counseling M.A. program at The City College of New York (CCNY) invites applications for a full-time (tenure-track) faculty position for scholar-practitioners in Family and Couples counseling at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2026. The CCNY Psychology Department is a vibrant and diverse department located in Harlem, serving over 2000 undergraduate majors, with master's programs in General Psychology and Mental Health Counseling, and an APA-accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology. The Mental Health Counseling program has a longstanding commitment to training professionals who address the needs of underserved and minority populations. The ideal candidate will blend practical counseling experience primarily in the area of family counseling with strong scholarly research interests in areas such as: Family Systems Therapy, attachment and developmental foundations, trauma informed family therapy, culturally inclusive family therapeutic models, community psychology, and related areas. The ideal candidate will be able to integrate multicultural insights and applications into all areas of their teaching, training, and supervisory roles. The successful candidate is welcome to participate in the APA-accredited Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology, supervising students' research projects and doctoral dissertations. Successful applicants are encouraged to establish interdisciplinary collaborations within the department, with local schools, the counseling center, the medical school, community organizations, and local hospitals. They will be responsible for contributing to teaching, research, and mentorship/advisement duties. They are expected to maintain an active program of research, publish theoretical and empirical research in top-tier journals, and show commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education. They will also share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, or a related area is required.
  • Experience in providing mentoring/advisement to mental health counseling students.
