About The Position

The School of Music seeks an individual of integrity and collegiality to recruit, teach, and mentor a studio of highly qualified violists, as well as teach and coordinate chamber music activities. The successful candidate should not only be an excellent teacher equipped with the highest standards and expertise in the field, they should also be an effective collaborator, ready to work closely with artist colleagues in the School of Music and in the other art schools on our university campus. We seek a colleague with versatility, creativity, and vision to help the institution continue to proactively engage with a constantly evolving profession.

Requirements

  • a master’s degree with professional experience equivalent to the terminal degree in music, OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • extensive professional performance profile and experience
  • a minimum of three years of university, conservatory, or equivalent teaching experience
  • demonstrated ability to be a compassionate mentor to students of varied levels and diverse backgrounds
  • commitment to recruiting, teaching, and fostering the development of young musicians

  • strong understanding of today’s music industry and the diverse career possibilities available to young emerging artists
  • demonstrated ability to recruit outstanding students locally, nationally, and internationally

  • interest and experience in interdisciplinary artistic work
  • experience and interest in mentoring students in music technology, pedagogy, and outreach and engagement
  • classroom teaching experience at the university level
