About The Position

Springfield College seeks applications for an Assistant Professor for Sport Management within the Department of Sport Management and Recreation. This is a full-time, nine-month, program-track appointment within the School of Physical Education, Performance and Sport Leadership beginning August 2026. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach core courses within the Sport Management undergraduate program, with emphasis on experiential, and engaged teaching practices. Preference will be given to candidates who have professional work or teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate sport management classes, event management, governance in sport and recreation, sport communication, organizational leadership, or strategy. Currently, the undergraduate Sport Management program is in the Candidacy phase of accreditation by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA). Additional consideration will be given for those with leadership experience curriculum design, and for those who have experience within COSMA accredited programs, or with the accreditation process. Candidates that can expand the cultural perspectives of the program are particularly welcome. Springfield sits on the eastern bank of the Connecticut River near its confluence with three rivers: the western Westfield River, the eastern Chicopee River, and the eastern Mill River. The estimated population is approximately 153,606, making it the third-largest city in Massachusetts, the fourth-most populous city in New England after Boston, Worcester, and Providence, and the 12th-most populous in the Northeastern United States. Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in Sport Management, or related discipline with evidence of teaching effectively in a wide range of college courses.
  • Applicants who are ABD for the terminal degree may be considered.
  • Candidates should have a commitment to work in a dynamic work setting with a diverse student population.
