About The Position

Coe College invites applications from dynamic, student-centered individuals for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2026. The success of Coe College is driven by the success of our graduates. Therefore, we place a priority on recruiting faculty who can fully engage students both in and out of the classroom. The successful candidate should expect to offer quality instruction at all levels of the curriculum across a range of topics, from introductory to more specialized courses. There will be the opportunity to develop new courses based on area of expertise. Teaching load is three courses per semester (3-3). An interdisciplinary program collaborating with Sociology and Philosophy, this major focuses on the administration of the criminal justice system with special emphasis on the disparate treatment of marginalized groups. The ability to teach in the college's African American Studies program is a plus. Program faculty also have the opportunity to contribute to the Justice Learning Initiative.

Requirements

  • J.D. or Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or closely related field (complete by August 2026).
  • Ability to teach a broad array of courses in the Social and Criminal Justice curriculum including Introduction to Social and Criminal Justice, Police and Society, Collateral Consequences of Corrections, Juvenile Delinquency and the Juvenile Justice System, and/or Criminal Law.
  • Enthusiasm for service to the program, college, and community.
  • Strong interest in teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate students, and the ability to offer a section of First Year Seminar for incoming students.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States as we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
  • Successful completion of a background check in accordance with Coe College policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to teach 1-2 courses per year in the African American Studies program, including Introduction to African American Studies.
