About The Position

The Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology at Florida Atlantic University’s College of Education invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor tenure-track position in the School Leaders program. Successful candidates are expected to have a focused research agenda and teach graduate-level classes. Also, candidates are expected to serve as professional knowledge experts and methodologists on Ph.D. dissertation committees and in other service assignments as assigned. The School Leaders faculty supports our large graduate programs, at both the Masters and Ph.D. levels, in the College of Education. We seek candidates who will work collaboratively and ethically with other faculty, staff, and students within the department, college, and university to promote the mission and goals of the department. The College of Education (COE) at FAU is one of the most diverse in Florida’s State University System. The College prepares educators and education professionals to serve six public school districts, among which are two of the largest in the nation, Broward and Palm Beach County School Districts. The COE is home to five academic departments: Counselor Education, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership and Research Methodology, and Special Education. The COE offers 37 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and nine certificates. The faculty is comprised of over 80 full-time faculty, instructors, and adjuncts. COE faculty maintain robust research and service agendas, contributing to their field of study, the university, local and national communities. The Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology (ELRM) has three program areas, two of which look specifically at the development of leaders; these two include the K-12 school sector and the higher education sector. The third program area is Research Methodology. The department’s programs include a Master's and Specialist in Educational Leadership in each of the two program areas, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in the two educational leadership program areas.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in educational leadership with a focus on PreK-12 or a related discipline by the date of hire
  • Established record of scholarly work in the field of educational/school leadership and active scholarly participation in professional educational organizations.
  • Research agenda and teaching philosophy should demonstrate knowledge and expertise in educational leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to effectively work with all students using innovative instructional approaches and methods.
  • Teaching experience using multiple technologies to deliver (Fully Online course delivery, hybrid courses and face-to-face instruction).
  • A record of engagement in professional service and community engagement activities that align with the advancement of the discipline.

  • Knowledgeable about and ability to facilitate students’ critical engagement with current trends in educational leadership.
  • Teaching experience as an instructor for school leaders in higher education settings.
  • Evidence of positive teaching evaluations
  • Leadership experience in K-12 public schools.
  • Expertise in quantitative and mixed-methods educational leadership research.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate courses in educational leadership
  • Advise doctoral students, chair dissertations and serve on dissertation committees
  • Engage in professional service to assist with state and national accreditation
  • Participate in all meetings and assigned committees related to the School Leaders Program and Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology
  • Work collaboratively and ethically with other faculty, staff, and students within the department, college, and university, while promoting the mission and goals of the department and the teaching profession
  • Maintain and active research and scholarship agenda in educational leadership
