About The Position

The Psychology Program at Southwest Minnesota State University is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Psychology specializing in counseling/clinical psychology. Position responsibilities include teaching a 24-credit course load per year (12 credits each semester), covering foundational areas of psychology related to counseling and/or clinical psychology, along with required major courses and electives. The person in this position must have the necessary credentials (see minimum qualifications below) to teach Abnormal Psychology, Counseling and Psychotherapy, Internship Field Experience, and other courses in their area of specialization. Duties also include student advising, contributing to student growth and development (both on campus and online), committee assignments, evaluating student performance, engaging in ongoing professional development, supervising student research and internships, service to the University and community, and engagement with the broader Minnesota State College and University System.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a closely related APA designated subfield from an APA-accredited program (degree must be completed prior to start date).
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching, including having served as primary instructor of record for at least one core psychology course.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations).
  • Applied experience providing psychological services to diverse populations.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate research and/or practicum/internship students.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and staff.
  • Competence in instructional technology.
  • Ability to contribute to the advancement of developing interdisciplinary programming, outreach, or applied research.
