About The Position

This is a 9-month, term contract position. The Assistant Professor will perform day-to-day operations of the instructional programs in the Department of Psychology in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Faculty member will also provide advisement to students, participate in college committees and campus activities, and develop coursework as needed. The standard teaching load is 15 credit hours per semester. The teaching assignment may include online, hybrid, and/or distance classes, evening classes, dual-enrollment, and off-campus locations. The instructor is responsible for the success of the teaching/learning process within the classroom.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology from a regionally accredited institution, or
  • Master's degree in another discipline from a regionally accredited institution and at least 18 graduate semester hours in psychology.
  • Knowledge and/or experience using various instructional delivery modes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in LMS management as well as Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching at the college level, particularly in the community college setting.
  • Experience in program development and committee work in the college setting.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching General Psychology and Life Span Psychology.
  • Experience teaching courses in various modalities, including in-person, hybrid, virtual, and asynchronously online.
  • Ph.D. in psychology.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in psychology courses, including General Psychology, Life Span Psychology, and other courses as assigned, using innovative teaching methods to engage and inspire students.
  • Assess student performance through various methods and contribute to the continuous improvement of student learning outcomes in each course taught.
  • Coordinate with other psychology faculty and the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences to expand and enhance the psychology program, including curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students in the Psychology and General Studies Transfer Pathways, supporting their educational and career goals.
  • Actively participate in college governance, including serving on committees and contributing to policy development and decision-making processes.
  • Foster relationships with local organizations and community partners to create opportunities for student internships, service learning, and collaborative projects.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in the field of psychology and higher education.
  • Perform additional tasks as required to support the mission and goals of the college.
