The Department of Music invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Music Education beginning September 1, 2026.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Music Education required.
  • Successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to building a diverse and inclusive community.
  • Professional activity in music education at the state/national level is required.
  • Demonstrated record of academic scholarship, research, and other scholarly activities in relevant fields.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching music in a public-school setting.
  • Evidence of successful recruiting ability.
  • Previous college teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core undergraduate and graduate courses in Music Education and methods; the normal teaching load is nine (9) semester hours per semester.
  • Direct and supervise both the undergraduate (BS) and graduate music education degree programs (MSEd and MA in Music Education), which also involves the oversight of adjunct faculty. An additional stipend will be provided for program direction based on enrollment.
  • Coordinate placement and supervision of student teachers.
  • Play a pivotal role in revitalizing and reimagining both the undergraduate (BS) and graduate music education degree programs (MSEd and MA in Music Education).
  • Actively recruit for the Music Department and the University.
  • Monitoring state certification requirements and serving as a liaison for accreditation procedures with relevant agencies.
  • Establish professional contacts with music educators in area preK-12 public schools.
  • Engage in Department, College, and University service.
  • Engage in continued professional research and creative activity.
  • Engaging in and leading research, scholarship, and other scholarly and professional endeavors that advance the mission and values of the School of Education.
  • Pursuing external research funding and grant opportunities.
  • Providing service to the departments of Music and Teaching and Learning Technology, college, university, and professional community.
