About The Position

The Ohio University Department of English seeks a teaching faculty member in modern (twentieth- and/or twenty-first-century) American literature with a deep commitment to student learning across platforms starting in Fall 2026. This Assistant Professor of Instruction position is a full-time, nine-month, benefitted position, for the term of one year. The position is potentially renewable dependent on department need and demonstrated success. The teaching load is typically eight courses per academic year on a semester schedule, with a mix of online asynchronous and in-person courses each year. This position will primarily support the growth of our online Master of Arts in English program and courses that fulfill the new state of Ohio requirement in American civic literacy, but there is likely to be opportunity to teach other courses serving general education or other programmatic needs. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in African-American literature, medical and health humanities, and/or Ohio or Appalachian literature. English Department: The Department of English has 32 full-time faculty across the main campus and five regional campuses in Southern and Central Ohio. College of Arts & Sciences: This college is central to Ohio University's transformative learning experience. The foundational instruction for the entire university, delivered through the general education and liberal arts curriculum, is provided by the College of Arts and Sciences. The college provides the primary instruction for approximately one-third of the undergraduate majors on campus, as well as half of the undergraduate credit hours on the Athens campus. Requirements

PhD in English or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment.
At least two years of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level by the start date, with some experience teaching in an online asynchronous environment.

Nice To Haves
