The Ohio University Department of English seeks a teaching faculty member in modern (twentieth- and/or twenty-first-century) American literature with a deep commitment to student learning across platforms starting in Fall 2026. This Assistant Professor of Instruction position is a full-time, nine-month, benefitted position, for the term of one year. The position is potentially renewable dependent on department need and demonstrated success. The teaching load is typically eight courses per academic year on a semester schedule, with a mix of online asynchronous and in-person courses each year. This position will primarily support the growth of our online Master of Arts in English program and courses that fulfill the new state of Ohio requirement in American civic literacy, but there is likely to be opportunity to teach other courses serving general education or other programmatic needs. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in African-American literature, medical and health humanities, and/or Ohio or Appalachian literature. English Department: The Department of English has 32 full-time faculty across the main campus and five regional campuses in Southern and Central Ohio.
