About The Position

The Department of Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Information Systems & Cyber Security in the College of Business and Economics at Longwood University is seeking qualified applicants to fill a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Information Systems and Cyber Security beginning in August 2026. The AACSB-accredited College of Business and Economics offers an undergraduate degree in Business Administration with concentrations in seven disciplines, including Information Systems and Cyber Security, as well as a fully online MBA program. The College also houses an established Center for Cyber Security. The college is developing an MS in Information Technology program with a Fall 2026 expected start date. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated emphasis in teaching and research related to information systems, cyber security, and technology concepts. The candidate will also have the ability to teach a variety of subjects at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including general cybersecurity courses, digital forensics, networking, entry level programming, database operations, systems analysis & design, technology management, machine learning, artificial intelligence, business applications of technology, and web development. The candidate should have sufficient technical experience in a range of these areas to provide hands-on demonstrations and provide meaningful laboratory exercises and instruction to supplement traditional textbook/lecture material for students. Applicants will be expected to contribute to excellence in education through teaching, scholarly publication in peer-reviewed outlets, and service to the college, university, and community. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to the College's mission through high-quality teaching, scholarly research aligned with AACSB expectations, and service to the department, college, university, and community. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in information systems or a closely-related discipline by August 2026 with substantial expertise in cyber security as well as demonstrated potential for teaching and research excellence. Candidates who are ABD may also be considered with a confirmed final dissertation defense and Ph.D. degree attainment date before by August 2026.
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to maintain a program of research output sufficient to meet AACSB scholarly academic (SA) status requirements.
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to meet annual progress toward scholarly output and tenure-track publication goals consistent with guidance in Longwood University's Faculty Policies & Procedures Manual.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior college-level teaching and online teaching experience is preferred.
  • A commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment, interest in active and collaborative learning and the instructional use of technology, enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment, and a demonstrated commitment to serving diverse populations and perspectives in the classroom are preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in one of the following areas is preferred: cyber/information security, software development, systems analysis, or equivalent technical applications.
  • Industry certifications related to the information systems, technology management, and cyber security disciplines are preferred.
