About The Position

The Department of Social Sciences at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) invites applications for a tenure track position in History as the Coordinator of the History Education Program. Description of Job Duties: The successful candidate will serve as the Program Coordinator for the History Education program, which includes supervising the student teaching field experiences, teaching the required Teachers course for Social Studies secondary education, and maintaining documentation and data for the purposes of maintaining the program’s accreditation. The candidate will also advise History Education majors as well as teach General Education courses both online and in-person in a variety of subjects such as World History, American History, American Government, and World Cultural Geography. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in History with a valid teaching license in Social Studies and three years teaching experience in U.S. public secondary schools.
  • Preference given to a non-U.S. historian.
  • We especially invite applicants who also have at least 18 credit hours or more in graduate level education courses.
  • We also encourage applicants with an Ed.D. coupled with a Master of Arts in History (M.A.), a valid teaching license in Social Studies, and three years teaching experience in U.S. public schools.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with InTASC Core Teaching Standards, CAEP accreditation standards, and NCSS standards with C3 Framework is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience at the secondary and collegiate level is preferred.
  • Technological competence and experience in the LMS Canvas is preferred. Expectations are to maintain a Canvas site for each course and gain a working knowledge of the Colleague system.

Responsibilities

  • Completing systematic program reviews to ensure content alignment with national or state approved standards for NCSS content area aligned with the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
  • Evaluate assessments to ensure content aligns with teacher competencies and state and national standards, review and adjust processes for assessment re-development, and track passing rates on subject-area tests to analyze and target potential obstacles to teacher certification.
  • Serve on the Teacher Education Council (TEC) and coordinate History Education program accreditation processes, which includes attending TEC meetings.
  • Attending NCSS annual training sessions and overseeing the implementation of any SPA standard changes to the History Education program.
  • Maintaining weekly office hours appropriate to course load.
  • Participating in early grade alert systems and assessing student outcomes.
  • Advising students and supporting student activities.
  • Continuing professional development.
