About The Position

UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice in the Divisions of Infectious Disease and Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM). All faculty in the Department of Medicine are expected to provide high-quality clinical care, participate in teaching actively and engage in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care, advancing clinical education, contributing to research activities on campus, and participating in other scholarly initiatives. The selected candidate will also serve as an Associate Medical Director of the Biocontainment Care Unit (BCU), an advanced clinical space for the care of persons with high consequence infectious diseases which is the federally designated Regional Emerging and Special Pathogens Treatment Center for HHS Region 6.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease and Critical Care.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

  • Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development in infectious disease.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient care for patients with infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, transplant-related infections, hospital-acquired infections, and emerging infectious diseases.
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient care for patients with pulmonary and critical care needs, including critically ill patients with highly infectious special pathogens
  • Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and didactic infectious disease and critical care settings.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Serve as Associate Medical Director of the Biocontainment Unit (BCU).
  • Develop, implement, and maintain protocols for the care of patients critically ill with special pathogens.
  • Coordinate with other services and entities within and outside of UTMB, including public health agencies, to assure ongoing preparedness to provide clinical care for patients with high consequence infectious diseases.
  • Engage in research activities that contribute to preparedness for high-consequence infectious disease
