ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Clinical Care Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for patients with cardiac arrhythmias and conduction disorders. Perform a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology procedures, including catheter ablation for supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, device implantation (pacemakers, ICDs, CRT), device extraction, and complex ablations such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Participate in the electrophysiology call rotation, including urgent arrhythmia management, inpatient consultations, and emergency procedures. Oversee pre- and post-procedure care, including risk assessment, patient counseling, device management, and longitudinal follow-up. Collaborate with interventional cardiology, advanced heart failure, cardiac surgery, general cardiology, and critical care teams to optimize patient outcomes. Provide timely responsiveness to referring provider inquiries and ensure access for urgent arrhythmia care. Support outreach efforts and regional clinics to expand access to advanced electrophysiology services. Academic & Teaching Responsibilities Teach and mentor cardiovascular medicine fellows, electrophysiology fellows, residents, and medical students. Participate in didactic teaching, case-based learning, journal clubs, and simulation training. Contribute to curriculum development in cardiac electrophysiology education. Supervise trainee documentation and ensure compliance with institutional and professional standards. Research & Scholarly Activity Participate in clinical research related to arrhythmia management, ablation technologies, and device therapies. Contribute to investigator-initiated studies and multicenter clinical trials. Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and present at national or international scientific meetings. Support quality improvement projects and technology-driven initiatives, such as AI-based arrhythmia detection or remote monitoring. Administrative Duties Document patient encounters promptly and accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR). Actively participate in departmental and Institute meetings. Collaborate with clinic management to streamline patient access and procedure scheduling. Serve on institutional or departmental committees as assigned. Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and evidence-based practice guidelines. Quality, Safety, & Compliance Monitor clinical outcomes and participate in performance improvement initiatives within the EP section. Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal healthcare regulations. Maintain appropriate credentialing, licensure, and CME requirements. Participate in peer review, morbidity and mortality conferences, and device registry quality initiatives. Professional Development & Community Engagement Attend and participate in national and regional electrophysiology and cardiology conferences. Build and maintain strong relationships with referring physicians and community partners. Represent UTMB in professional societies, task forces, and advocacy efforts focused on arrhythmia care.
