About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. Primary duties will include teaching courses (at a reduced teaching load); being part of the inaugural faculty to launch of the new Civil Engineering program focusing on Water Resources and Wastewater Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Green Building Engineering with emphasis on LEED and sustainable design; assisting in the establishment and development of laboratory facilities; collaborating with faculty and staff; mentoring students as well as helping to guide their research projects. Duties also include developing externally funded research, enhancing the School's research profile, fostering collaborations with industry, government, and interdisciplinary teams to advance lab and program initiatives; and providing service to the School, college, and university. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. The School of Engineering offers ABET-accredited programs in Systems, Computer, and Petroleum Engineering and will launch a multidisciplinary MS in Systems Engineering in Fall 2026. Faculty numbers have seen remarkable growth alongside thriving enrollment and program expansion.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Applicants nearing completion of their Ph.D. will be considered if the degree is awarded before the start of the 2026-2027 academic year.
  • Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellence in research, teaching, and student mentorship, with strong communication skills and a commitment to supporting students.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Water Resources and Wastewater Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Green Building Engineering with LEED/sustainable design is required.
  • Ability to contribute to laboratory establishment and development, manage hands-on experimental programs, and engage with faculty, students, and external stakeholders is also required.
