About The Position

The Assistant Professor of Accounting is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position within the College of Business Administration at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. The position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate accounting courses across multiple delivery modalities, including face-to-face and online formats, while contributing to student success and program development. The faculty member is expected to maintain an active research agenda consistent with AACSB accreditation standards, producing scholarly work and engaging in professional development activities. In addition, the position requires participation in service activities that support the college, university, and broader professional and regional communities. This role contributes to the mission of the College of Business Administration through teaching, research, and service, while supporting the student population, including first-generation students, and engaging with stakeholders to enhance academic programs and community impact.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Accounting or a closely related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered, with degree completion required by August 2026.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach accounting courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
  • Evidence of, or strong potential for, scholarly research consistent with AACSB Scholarly Academic (SA) expectations
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to teach using multiple instructional modalities, including face-to-face and online formats
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via electronic means for teaching, meetings, and student interaction
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while delivering instruction or working at a computer
  • Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment for course delivery, communication, and research activities
  • Ability to move between classrooms, offices, and campus locations to perform teaching and service responsibilities
  • Ability to lift and carry instructional materials, such as books or a laptop, up to 10–15 pounds
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and current developments in the discipline
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and pedagogical techniques for teaching in higher education
  • Ability to effectively teach and facilitate learning in undergraduate and graduate courses across multiple delivery modalities, including face-to-face and online environments
  • Ability to develop course materials, assess student learning outcomes, and adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs
  • Ability to conduct scholarly research and produce academic publications consistent with AACSB accreditation expectations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators in a team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in using instructional technologies, learning management systems, and standard office software

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification in accounting or a related field (e.g., CPA, CMA, CIA, CFE, or similar)
  • Ability to teach in one or more specialized areas such as auditing, taxation, managerial or cost accounting, accounting ethics, or fraud examination
  • Experience with enterprise systems (e.g., SAP) or data analytics tools relevant to accounting and business decision-making
  • Experience incorporating experiential learning opportunities into coursework (e.g., VITA or similar applied programs)
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in higher education

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate accounting courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online/asynchronous formats
  • Develop, update, and deliver course materials aligned with program learning outcomes and accreditation standards
  • Assess student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Maintain scheduled office hours and provide academic support and mentoring to students
  • Utilize appropriate instructional technologies and learning management systems
  • Contribute to curriculum development, course revisions, and program assessment activities
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda in accounting or a related field
  • Produce peer-reviewed scholarly publications consistent with AACSB Scholarly Academic (SA) expectations
  • Present research at academic or professional conferences
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain academic qualifications
  • Pursue external funding or collaborative research opportunities where appropriate
  • Participate in college, university, and departmental committees and governance activities
  • Engage with the accounting profession and external stakeholders to support program development and community impact
  • Contribute to student engagement initiatives, including advising and experiential learning activities (e.g., VITA or similar programs)
  • Support recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts for the College of Business Administration
  • Attend faculty meetings and college events as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the College of Business
