The Director of Music Education (DME) and General/Elementary Music Education Specialist is a 12-month appointment that teaches in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The DME works with the Chair of the Department of Music and secondary music education faculty to coordinate and oversee the music education program (both instrumental and vocal majors, undergraduate and graduate students). The DME also serves as the liaison between the Department of Music and the Clemmer College of Education and Human Development. The DME ensures that all curriculum meets state licensure standards and NASM accreditation standards. Teaching assignments will include undergraduate general and elementary music methods, materials, and pedagogy. Graduate classes will include concepts, history, and philosophy of music education, as well as special topics courses and overseeing Master's theses. Teaching assignment over the summer will include no less than three summer courses. The DME will coordinate with the College of Education to find qualified placements and supervisors for student teachers.
