About The Position

The Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering, at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position. The position is focused on the mechanics of sustainable and resilient materials and structures. Of special interest are candidates with expertise and interest in research at the materials and mechanics levels focused on the intentional design of structures and infrastructure systems to respond to natural and manmade disasters and disturbance as well as long-term changes resulting from climate change through the syntheses and integration of the disciplines of mechanics and materials integrating form and function to use mechanics not just to understand structural behavior but also to tailor materials for multifunctionality. The position calls for strengths in both materials and mechanics with applications to the development of new materials, methodologies, and systems that ensure simultaneous addressing of sustainability and resilience in the next generation of civil infrastructure and for the rehabilitation of existing civil infrastructure.

Requirements

  • An earned PhD in civil engineering, mechanics, materials or a closely related field is required.
  • Candidates with doctoral degrees in fields other than civil engineering must be able to demonstrate their understanding and experience with civil infrastructure systems.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the highest levels of research and teaching excellence and to an applied focus for impactful research.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated research record in the areas of (a) tailored design of materials and (b) mechanics, for the development of sustainable and resilient structural systems
  • Proven record of interdisciplinary research
  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels at a R-1 institution
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
  • Successful record of competitive funding from federal agencies and industry.
