About The Position

The Department seeks a colleague to teach upper division design studios and support courses. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to, or potential for, teaching excellence in the areas of social-cultural and/or ecological resilience, landscape ecology, and critical and creative design approaches to teaching, including integrating landscape performance and green infrastructure (site engineering) into the studio environment. Applicants shall demonstrate the ability to develop a viable research program that complements their teaching. Commitment to department, college, and university service activities is required. Learn-by-doing and project-based learning is the preferred teaching model. We are especially interested in candidates committed to supporting universal student success and the ability to foster collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environments.

Requirements

  • A master's or doctoral degree in landscape architecture or a related and complementary field. Where the master's or doctoral degree is in a related or complementary field, the candidate shall have an undergraduate or master's degree in landscape architecture and shall have evidence of experience in landscape architecture practice.
  • Evidence of potential for excellence in university-level teaching.
  • Evidence of experience with social-cultural and/or ecological resilience, landscape performance, green infrastructure (including site engineering) and landscape ecology through professional projects or teaching.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging digital design and representation media.
  • Potential for the development of a successful research and scholarship program that complements their teaching. Cal Poly uses Boyer's model of scholarship (discovery, integration, application, and teaching), encouraging a wide range of scholarship directions.
  • Demonstrable commitment to universal student success.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional practice at a range of scales from urban infill to watershed.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn analytic and computational software such as GIS and BIM, including REVIT.
  • Landscape architecture license or demonstrated progress in the licensure process.
  • Teaching experience in upper division studios and support courses.
