About The Position

The Department of Chemistry, Physics & Atmospheric Sciences is accepting applications for its Assistant Professor in Meteorology (Non-Tenure Track) position.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in numerical weather prediction, satellite product development, and algorithm design.
  • Track record of effective federal and academic collaborations, including leadership in AI or environmental modeling initiatives.
  • Commitment to mentoring students and engaging underrepresented communities in STEM.
  • Extensive experience with managing meteorology, atmospheric sciences, and related technological initiatives (i.e. GOES-R series satellite systems and earth system modeling), as well as educating the public on meteorological applications.
  • Proven leadership in strategic development, including organizing interdisciplinary teams and securing funding.
  • History of community engagement, environmental justice advocacy, or translating community needs into scientific and policy-oriented advancements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in: Atmospheric modeling (e.g., NWP). Satellite meteorology and remote sensing. Al and data analysis applications in meteorology.
  • Advise and mentor students in research, internships, and professional development.
  • Research & Innovation: Lead and collaborate on research in: Numerical modeling and AI-enhanced weather prediction. Satellite algorithm development (particularly GOES and similar systems). Environmental justice through community-engaged meteorological research.
  • Service & Outreach: Engage with local communities, especially udder-served and vulnerable populations, applying atmospheric science to societal needs.
  • Build strategic partnerships, including with federal agencies (e.g., NOA A, NWS).
  • Perform other duties assigned.
