About The Position

Fall Semester Indian River State College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor I – Philosophy. We are seeking a passionate and dynamic educator with an Area of Specialization (AOS) in philosophy dedicated to inspiring students and shaping the next generation of thinkers. The successful candidate will: · Contribute to the department’s philosophy curriculum with engaging and exploratory instruction. · Demonstrate a strong foundation in logic and critical thinking, with preference given to those who bring an interdisciplinary approach to teaching. · Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that reflects the diversity of our student body. · Collaborate with to enhance student success and strengthen the academic community. Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Philosophy (a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Philosophy) from an accredited institution
  • Proven knowledge of and experience in teaching Philosophy at the undergraduate level
  • Ability to recognize and respond to the individual differences of students from a culturally diverse student population
  • Willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process
  • Computer literacy and experience using computers in the classroom
  • Willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to the teaching of Philosophy

Nice To Haves

  • Two to five years of teaching experience in a college or post-secondary institution
  • Research and publication useful to classroom instruction.
  • A Ph.D in philosophy

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, instructing, and grading all class coursework
  • Assigning final grades
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students
  • Teaching a minimum of 36 semester hours annually
  • Preparing a syllabus for each course
  • Instructing assigned classes
  • Grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments
  • Assigning final grades
  • Assisting in the preparation and in course planning and development as requested
  • Appropriately integrating computer software and technology-based instruction
  • Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned
