Requirements

  • Master’s degree in mathematics required; PhD in Mathematics is preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of and experience in teaching algebra, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus.
  • Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work with and teach to diverse populations is essential.
  • Ability to apply traditional and innovative technologies is essential.
  • Ability to develop and/or implement strategies to support students’ retention, persistence and program completion is essential.
  • A willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process.
  • Ability to develop courses and teach in a variety of formats including, but not limited to, live/traditional, online, and blended.
  • Ability to communicate the concepts of mathematics by applying mathematics to real life situations.
  • Computer literacy and experience using computers and calculators in the classroom with a willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to the teaching of mathematics.
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirement for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Nice To Haves

  • Two to five years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution is preferred.
  • Research and/or publication useful to classroom instruction encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, instructing, and grading all mathematics class coursework
  • Assigning final grades
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students
  • Participation in grant writing activities individually and/or as part of a team to improve student learning, success, and completion
  • Ability to use data and assessment tools in the evaluation and improvement of instruction
  • Serving the community
  • Serving effectively on college committees
  • Duties and responsibilities associated with teaching a minimum of 36 semester hours annually
  • Preparing a syllabus for each course; instructing assigned classes
  • Grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments; and entering grades in Blackboard gradebook in a timely manner
  • Assigning final grades
  • Developing and maintaining course management through college’s Learning Management system
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students
  • Cooperating in Department budget preparation and in course planning and development
  • Assisting with Departmental projects and programs
  • Serve on at least one College committee/workgroup
  • Develop and/or implement strategies to support students’ retention, persistence, and program completion is essential
  • Appropriately integrating computer software and technology-based instruction
  • Participating in department, division, and general faculty meetings, applicable college committee activities, and other forms of college service
  • Service to the community is required
  • Completing other duties as assigned by the college administration
