About The Position

The University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ) is seeking applications for a twelve-month, tenure-earning Assistant Professor in the Medical Laboratory Sciences ( MLS ) Program, housed within the Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences ( CDS ) in the School of Health Professions ( SHP ). This full-time faculty position focuses primarily on teaching, with required contributions to scholarship and service consistent with departmental, school, and university expectations.

Requirements

• Master’s degree required; doctoral degree strongly preferred.
• National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist ( MLS ) or Board Certification in Clinical Pathology.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Doctorate preferred.
• Prior teaching experience in an accredited Medical Laboratory Science program.
• Experience teaching or practicing within Clinical Chemistry and/or laboratory instrumentation.
• Evidence of scholarly engagement or interest in research.

Responsibilities

• Teaching didactic and laboratory courses in the areas of Clinical Chemistry and Instrumentation/Automation at both the bachelor’s (BS) and master’s (MS) levels.
• Contributing to program curriculum development and accreditation activities.
• Advising and mentoring students.
• Engaging in scholarly activities appropriate to a tenure-earning faculty role.
• Participating in departmental, school, and university service.
• Teaching other program or departmental courses as needed.
