About The Position

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), a nationally prominent comprehensive college for the performing and media arts, seeks an experienced performer and educator for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Dance, intended to begin August 15, 2026. The department is seeking a colleague in modern and jazz dance with resources and expertise in professional, academic and technique areas. Space exists for a colleague who can teach courses in any genre or codified technique with additional instructional abilities in a secondary technique(s), lab(s), and academic(s) courses. Initial appointment is three (3) years, after which the faculty member is eligible for reappointment. THIS POSITION IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR H-1B OR PERM SPONSORSHIP.

Requirements

  • Prior to the effective date of the appointment, the successful candidate must have either: An M.F.A. in Dance or related field OR- A B.F.A. in Dance or related field with a minimum of five (5) calendar years of progressive professional company performance experience, teaching experience, or directing/staging experience.
  • Five (5) academic years of teaching experience in dance in a professional, pre-professional, conservatory, academy, or higher-education setting. At least three of those academic years must be in higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an instructor, advisor, and mentor.
  • Teach dance courses in modern and jazz dance. May also teach other genres or codified techniques, secondary techniques, labs, and academics courses.
  • Teach courses related to primary and/or secondary genre [technique, character, contact improvisation, contemporary, groundwork, dance history, ballet history, Somatics, partnering, etc].
  • Lead the dance department in research and creative work in an area that will benefit students' breath of knowledge and career preparation. Examples of these areas could include but are not limited to Somatics, professional practice, audition techniques, conditioning, dance in world context, dance for camera, health and wellness, and anatomy/kinesiology.
  • Assist the department in restaging classical works and ballets.
  • Choreograph original works for the department.
  • Develop and teach curricula that support student success in the current job market.
  • Recruit and retain students of exceptional promise.
  • Recruit guests of exceptional promise.
  • Participate in departmental activities including recruitment, auditions, committee work, season planning, and student advising.
  • Maintain regional, national, and international visibility through performance, directing, research, and/or creative activity.
  • Attend off campus recruiting events, lead student trips and experiences, create performative and experiential opportunities for students in off campus spaces and environments.
  • Serve the college and university community through activities such as committee membership, academic advising, and mentorship of students.
